The lighted Lake, located on the Civril Plain to the south of Akdag, above the springs feeding the Buyuk Menderes River, continued to exist as a natural lake until 1968. However, Isikli Lake which has been transformed into a dam lake since this date is used for irrigation of Civril Plain today. The Isikli Lake, with about 7 meter depth, is a freshwater lake.
Kufi, the source of Buyuk Menderes and one of its northern branches, is known as the main water source of Isikli Lake. The western, southern and eastern shores of the lake, which is also fed by the Isikli Lake and underground waters, are surrounded by banks. Kufi, the current main source of the lake, was diverted to the lake in the 1960s and today supplies approximately 60% of the lake water. Today, Isikli Lake plays the role of a reservoir that stores water for large-scale irrigations in the surrounding plains for 40 years.
